The Power of The Internet

If you haven't heard about it already, head on over to digg to take a look at this thread (warning the thread as of this writing has well over 770 comments and takes forever to load and makes Firefox gag...incidentally, IE7 happily loads the aforementioned page). It's an extremely long digg commented post and story and it's well worth skimming. Go ahead. I'll be here when you get back.

Good, now that you're back, I have a few things to say. While I do believe that scam artists like this deserve nothing short of jail time, I have to wonder what this blogger was doing purchasing from these assholes in the first place?

If you take a look at priceritephoto.com, notice the "Review Us" links on the right hand column? I spent 10 seconds perusing the resellerratings one and the bizrate link that THEY provided and guess what? I saw enough in 10 seconds of skimming to keep me from ever parting with my hard earned cash here. This blogger uses the power of the internet to bring this online retailer down (rightfully so!) but neglects to use the same power of the internet to spend 10 minutes researching these scammers before parting with his money.

Am I saying the blogger deserved what he got? Hell no! Am I saying that the scammers deserved what they got? Hell yeah! I'm merely pointing out that one should assume that everyone is out to rip you off. There is so much information available to us as consumers if you use the internet correctly. Research people! He could have avoided all of this heartache by dedicating 10 minutes of his time to research this company. That's it. 10 minutes.

Peace..

Greasemonkey + Ash + Digg = digging in style

Ash, the Greasemonkey extraordinaire over in my forums, has developed numerous scripts for use with digg. My favorite is the block script for digg. Not only does this script allow you to block articles (so you never have to see them if they get promoted to the front), but you can also block users. Yes, block users. This means that if you block a user, you'll never see anything they post again. Very handy script indeed. Ash is constantly making changes to his scripts based on user input, so head over to the forums, download Greasemonkey and Ash's scripts, and cruise digg in style!

Apathy

Check out this post on digg.com. Specifically the very first post by "coffee33" (if you can't see the comment post by s/he, then change the comment view threshold to -3).

The submitted story is about a 17 year old kid that gets beat up for his brand-new Xbox360 at 12:01 am, which means that he waited in line last night for it and got jacked because of it. This fucknut (coffee33) has this to say in the comments section,

LMAO...I think getting his ass kicked for the fact he spent $450.00 should teach him a lesson in life. Its a fricken gaming consel fool...you wasted almost $500.00 on it and getting your ass kicked is just a bonus to your stupidity! :)

What kind of asshole feels like this? Is this the kind of jerk that pulls wings off flies because it's funny? This kind of apathy is appalling. He can't understand why someone would spend $450 on a new "gaming consel" so that justifies them getting their ass kicked.

Microsoft Quietly Launches New Search For Businesses
Could this be a Google Appliance Killer?

Without much fanfare, Microsoft launches today, a business version of their search software. It will help people more easily find documents, e-mail and other data. The interesting tidbit is that it's designed for easy deployment by IT and can be modified (through GPOs) by IT to control how it's used.
